Fire, Sunken Boats in Vinings Landing Marina

As of Wednesday, April 28, 2010 the Coast Guard was continuing to monitor clean-up efforts following a fire at the Vinings Landing Marina in Norfolk in the early morning hours.

Recovery crews have been hired to clean up and recover three sunken vessels. According to the Coast Guard, a majority of the fuel spilled has dissipated or has been absorbed by the absorbent booms.

The Coast Guard warns boaters to take caution when transiting near the marina and obey the no-wake zone as to not hamper clean-up efforts.

Initial reports from responders this morning stated a 45-foot sailing vessel caught fire and spread to adjacent recreational boats. The initial report has not been confirmed. The Norfolk Fire Marshal is currently investigating the cause of the fire.
